2006 Annual Business Meeting

Present: Kathy B. (handwriting illegible), Tracy Burton, John Chamberlain, Kimberly Cosier, Bob Curtis, Melanie Davenport, Carrie Davis, Katheryn Gainey, Carl Harbart, Karen Keifer-Boyd, Laurel Lampela, Tom Lau, Therese Quinn, Mindi Rhoades, David Rodriquez, Jr., Ric Rubialer, James H. James Sanders called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m. The meeting began with introductions. The 2005 minutes were approved after a motion by Mindi Rhoades and seconded by Melanie Davenport.
The following reports were approved:
The Financial Report presented by Secretary/Treasurer, Jessie L. Whitehead was moved for approval by Debbie Smith-Shank and seconded by John Chamberlain;
The Archivist Report presented by archivist, Laurel Lampela was moved for approval by Melanie Davenport and seconded by Kathryn Gainey; and
The Delegates Assembly Report was presented by Melanie Davenport.
During the presentations of the various reports, the following observations were made:
? John Chamberlain suggested that the Caucus consider increasing membership dues and Bob Curtis suggested that an increase is warranted because the Caucus now offers additional benefits.
? Karin Wolf suggested that LGBTQ-related lessons/curricula/programming be submitted by art teachers to be included in the Archivist report.
? Melanie Davenport suggested that the Caucus develop a working relationship with other affiliates beginning in 2007. She also shared that the NAEA does have anti-discrimination clause in the bylaws
During new business, Mindi Rhoades, NAEA News editor for LGBTQIC asked if others would like to become the newsletter editor. Laurel Lampela suggested clarification was needed regarding the newsletter editor and NAEAnews columnist. After the clarification, Debbie Smith-Shank recommended that members volunteer to be guest editors for the NAEA News.
Debbie Smith-Shank also suggested that the Archivist position be changed in the by-laws as longer than a one-year position. James Sanders indicated that such a change would have to be presented to the membership.
Debbie Smith-Shank provided information about the on-line journal, Visual Culture and Gender of which she is a co-editor and presented a cal for papers.
James Sanders presented the slate of officers for 2006-2007 for approval. With this last order of business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
