The online index did not bring up as many citations as found in the print version. Eight citations appeared under Department Stores—History and four citations under Stores—History. Under the author entries Meredith Clausen and Meredith L. Clausen, 5 entries out of 20 were on department stores.

This volume is arranged geographically and then by Architect’s name. Indexes of Architect’s Names and Architectural Works are included. Though no headings of building types are included, one can find department stores in the index of architectural works by finding the geographic heading and then scanning the works listed there. The search turned up Department stores by Erich Mendelsohn, Henry Hobson Richardson and Louis Sullivan. Included are critical articles and bibliographical references with the article.
